According to the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Kremlin is actively mobilizing national minorities in Ukraine to death.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) should pay attention to the persecution of national minorities in Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this on Friday, February 2, during negotiations with the head of the Maltese Foreign Ministry and current OSCE Chairman Jan Borg, European Pravda reports.
According to Kuleba, in a dialogue with a colleague, he raised the topic of protecting the rights of national minorities in Russia.
“This is not only about the Ukrainian minority. Recent events in Ufa and Bashkortostan have once again shown that Russia, as the classic said, is a prison of nations. Bashkirs came to the defense of an activist who is being tried by the Kremlin for his position against war and support of Bashkir culture and identity,” said the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
He noted that the Kremlin is actively mobilizing national minorities in Ukraine to death, “and by doing this it pursues precisely two goals – the continuation of aggression and, in essence, thus carrying out ethnic cleansing on its own territory.”
“The OSCE has tools to protect the rights of national minorities, in particular, the institution of the High Commissioner on National Minority Issues functions. We believe that this issue needs to be closely addressed,” Kuleba said.
He also reminded his colleague about the decree of the President of Ukraine “on the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians,” which refers to “both Ukrainians and other peoples enslaved by Russia.”
