The President added that Kyiv is working with partners on anti-Russian sanctions and the confiscation of Russian assets abroad.
President Vladimir Zelensky noted the importance of maintaining the consolidation of Western partners and providing Ukraine with the opportunity to defeat the Russian Federation.
He said this in his evening address. “The war was started by Russia on the Ukrainian front, but its target is not only our state and independence. And therefore it is important to maintain maximum consolidation of the free world and do everything possible and impossible so that Ukraine can defeat Russia. Moscow does not understand anything else,” the president emphasized .
Zelensky added that work is underway with teams of European partners on arming Ukraine, new defense packages and security solutions.
“We continue to work with partners both on new sanctions against the Russian Federation and on blocking Russian schemes for circumventing sanctions. And we are as active as possible in relation to the confiscation of Russian assets that exist in different jurisdictions. I am grateful to everyone who helps us in our work on the confiscation of Russian assets,” – the president noted.
Frozen assets of the Russian Federation
On January 22, the heads of the EU foreign ministries agreed to introduce a tax on windfall profits from frozen Russian assets.
But according to Western media, the EU is unlikely to confiscate the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank because it fears financial and legal risks. At the same time, Western leaders support the idea of financing Ukraine during the war by confiscating and cashing out Russian assets.
