The Republican-backed document is a political stunt, the White House Office of Management and Budget believes.
Democrat, US President Joe Biden is vetoing a bill supported by Republicans from the lower house of Congress (House of Representatives), which provides only aid to Israel.
The American leader advocates the adoption of a broader draft law that spells out assistance to both the Israeli state and Ukraine, and the allocation of funding for US border security, writes Voice of America, citing a statement from the White House Office of Management and Budget.
The White House called the document, which was supported by Republicans, a political stunt. “The Administration urges both houses of Congress to reject this political stunt and instead quickly send a bipartisan Emergency National Security Action Act to the President’s desk to complement appropriations,” the statement said.
Help for Ukraine from the United States – what you need to know
American assistance to our country to fight the Russians, who have carried out a full-scale invasion of our territory, has “stalled” as the political confrontation between Republicans and Democrats intensified as the presidential elections in the United States approached.
On January 17, Joe Biden met with the leadership of Congress and called for additional funding to help Kyiv. Back in October 2023, the White House requested Congress to provide tens of billions of additional financial assistance to Ukraine and Israel, but this document was never approved due to Republicans. The main problematic issue turned out to be funding for the security of the American border.
On February 5, it became known that the US Senate had unveiled a bipartisan proposal to help Ukraine, Israel and border security. The document provides for the allocation of more than $60 billion to help our country.
It is worth noting that Republican, former US President and candidate for this post Donald Trump sharply criticized the bipartisan draft law. The politician called the document a “death wish” for the Republican Party.
