The defenders of Ukraine urgently need to be provided with ammunition, experts noted.
The battles for Avdiivka remain in the spotlight. Russian occupiers can take control of this city, located in the Donetsk region.
Ukrainian troops lack enough shells and cannot effectively respond to enemy artillery, according to a report by analytical group Frontelligence Insight. “As Russian forces continue to put pressure on Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka, it is becoming clear that the fall of Avdiivka is not a matter of if, but when,” analysts said. Experts added that Ukrainian forces need to be provided with urgent ammunition.
If the commanders of the Ukrainian soldiers decide to leave Avdiivka, “before the Russians close their pincers even further around the city, they will be able to save hundreds of lives and maintain their authority,” Forbes writes.
“A tactical retreat would not necessarily lead to larger strategic losses. With the right weapons and, just as importantly, adequate ammunition, the Ukrainians could retreat from Avdiivka, consolidate their positions a few miles to the west, and still strike Russian supply lines through Donetsk,” the article notes.
Avdiivka is in the spotlight – news worth knowing
Ukrainian troops have held Avdiivka for 10 years since the Russians invaded Donbass. As of 2022, the population of Avdeevka exceeded 31 thousand people, and at the end of 2023 it was reported that there were already less than 2 thousand citizens there.
Last fall, Russian invaders began to actively storm Avdeevka and try to encircle it. At the same time, the Russian Federation suffered huge losses. At the beginning of February, information appeared that the enemy had captured part of the city. The Ukrainian side claimed that the enemies were unable to capture the Tsarskaya Okhota complex and Sobornaya Street.
According to information from OSINT community analysts DeepState, published on February 8, the invaders took control of 18% of the territory of Avdiivka. The former company commander of the Aidar battalion, veteran Yevgeny Dikiy, admitted the possibility that our soldiers would leave the city due to “shell famine.”
