It is quite possible that after Poland, the Baltic countries would also receive nuclear weapons.
It’s time for Eastern European countries to prepare for Donald Trump’s coming to power. After all, under his rule, the United States is unlikely to help NATO partners defend against an attack from the Russian Federation.
Journalists from The Spectator quote Dalibor Rogac, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He explains that it is nuclear deterrence that can help Eastern European countries feel secure if Trump wins the election.
“There is no sweetening the situation for Europe: Mr. Trump will not be “tough” on Russia and will not be interested in strengthening NATO. The former president called the Alliance obsolete and is considering leaving it. Forget about the “adults in the room,” writes Rogach.
According to the scientist, it is Poland that has the greatest risk of becoming the next target of the Russian Federation. Therefore, Warsaw should not rely on US help, but should independently have the means to restrain such aggression, Rogach believes. In addition, according to the scientist, Poland has enough finances to ensure the maintenance of nuclear weapons.
He also believes that if Poland officially declares its desire to obtain such weapons, this could prompt France or Britain to offer Warsaw a bilateral agreement on the sharing of nuclear weapons. And if Poland gets weapons, the Baltic countries could be next, the scientist is convinced.
“In a post-American world, a Polish nuclear umbrella could help secure Europe’s eastern flank. It would also provide an alternative way to guarantee Ukraine’s security after the cessation of hostilities, especially if NATO membership is no longer an option. In essence, however, a nuclear Poland would provide an answer to the eternal problem of European geopolitics: how to prevent the desire of Germany and Russia to dominate the Eurasian continent,” Rogac sums up.

And The Washington Post warned that Moscow is full of optimism and confidence that it can successfully resist the West by establishing closer economic and diplomatic ties with China and the countries of the global South.
