Such measures are permitted by Russian laws when it comes to “hard-to-reach” territories.
The Kremlin has decided to hold “early voting” in the occupied territories of Ukraine as part of the so-called “Russian presidential elections.” Kommersant writes about this.
In Russia itself, voting will last three days, but in the occupied territories of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, voting will begin even earlier. However, specific dates for such early voting have not yet been announced – they must be determined by the local occupation authorities appointed by Russia.
According to Russian law, early voting in elections is allowed “in hard-to-reach areas.” The occupiers consider the occupied territories of Ukraine to be such. There, “voters” will be given the opportunity to vote either in advance at home, or directly at the polling station on the main three voting days. Kommersant’s sources in the occupation administrations name different dates for the start of early voting – from February 25 to March 10.
At the same time, the occupiers note that not only local residents will vote in the occupied territory, but also soldiers of the occupation army and civilians sent from Russia – in particular, various “builders”.
Russian presidential elections
As wrote, the next presidential elections in the Russian Federation are scheduled for March 2024. Voting will take place over three days, from March 15 to 17. Current President Vladimir Putin intends to take part in them. If he wins, this will be his fifth term in office. To make this state of affairs legal, the Russian constitution was redrawn.
We also told you that in Russia the only anti-war candidate was not allowed to participate in the presidential elections. Boris Nadezhdin calls to “stop this story with Ukraine.”
