Tickets for a friendly match between the local team and the Argentine star’s new club cost up to $630.
Fans of soccer star Lionel Messi in Hong Kong have been offered a 50% refund of their ticket prices after their idol failed to take the field in his current club Inter Miami’s friendly against local team. Sky News reports this.
It is noted that the star Argentinean, due to injury, watched the entire match from the bench, while the fans were waiting for him to enter the field. No wonder: the cost of tickets for a football show with Messi’s participation reached 630 US dollars.
“When it became clear that the Argentine would not play, fans began to whistle and raised banners with messages like ‘Messi is out, return the money’. Later, many also took to social networks to voice their complaints,” the newspaper writes.
The match organizing company, Tatler Asia, apologized to people who were left disappointed.
“We will not escape our responsibility as organizers, and therefore Tatler Asia will offer everyone who purchased match day tickets through official channels a 50% refund,” the company noted.
The footballer himself also tried to apologize to his fans.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I always want to play – especially in those matches when we travel so far and people are happy to see us play. I hope we can come back and play a game in Hong Kong,” Messi wrote on social media in Chinese and Spanish.
