According to her, work was underway on a number of steps to continue to help Ukraine carry out the necessary reforms.
US Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith said that she does not expect the Alliance to invite Ukraine to join at the summit in Washington in July this year, writes Reuters.
“For a summit this summer, I don’t expect the alliance to extend an invitation at this stage,” Smith said.
According to her, since the 2023 Vilnius Summit, hard work has been carried out on a number of steps to continue to help Ukraine implement the necessary reforms to move closer to Euro-Atlantic integration.
“And we continue to focus first and foremost on supporting them in the current fight and ensuring their victory on the battlefield,” added the US ambassador to NATO.
Journalists note that Kyiv and some NATO allies, especially in Eastern Europe, are insisting on an invitation to membership, although they acknowledge that Ukraine cannot join while at war.
At a summit in Lithuania last year, NATO leaders said Ukraine’s future lay in the alliance, but stopped short of extending invitations or setting a time frame for membership.
Trump’s scandalous statement on NATO
Former US President with renewed ambitions to take the presidency, Donald Trump has signaled to Russia and its leader Putin that they are free to destroy other countries if they are in financial debt.
Earlier, wrote that WP found out whether the United States could refuse assistance to a NATO ally. As commander in chief, the president decides whether the U.S. military will fight. If an ally is attacked, NATO will take “such measures as it deems necessary” to defend the North Atlantic region, according to Article 5 of its charter.
