This statement was made back in 2021.
President of the United States of America Joe Biden was asked what consequences await the Russian leadership after the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a penal colony.
Thus, one of the journalists reminded the American leader of his statement after a meeting with Russian dictator Putin in Geneva in 2021. At the time, Biden said he warned him of “devastating” consequences if Navalny died in a Russian prison.
“That was three years ago. During that time, they faced a huge number of consequences. They lost and/or wounded more than 350 thousand Russian soldiers. They found themselves in a situation where huge sanctions were imposed on them in all areas. And we reflect on the fact that what more could be done,” Biden responded.
US reaction to Navalny’s death:
Let us recall that on February 16, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service announced the death of Navalny. In Russia they say that he became ill after a walk, and the emergency medical team was unable to save him.
In his address, Joe Biden said that Vladimir Putin bears responsibility for the murder of Navalny. He also called on lawmakers to support additional funding for Ukraine so that the country can defend itself against brutal attacks and war crimes by the Russian Federation.
