The country’s government can allocate up to $30 million from the budget.
Canada has signaled that it is ready to support the Czech Republic’s initiative to urgently deliver tens of thousands of artillery shells from different countries to Ukraine. CBC reports this.
It is noted that the federal government can contribute up to $30 million to the budget, as proposed by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, at the opening of the Munich Security Conference. He said that he managed to obtain up to 800,000 shells of standard NATO caliber, as well as shells of other calibers from countries outside the Alliance.
“I have entered into a memorandum of understanding with one of our European allies, the Czech Republic, regarding possibly acquiring the ammunition that they currently have in their possession, which will allow us … to make it available to Ukraine more quickly as we increase our own production.” , said Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair.
He said Ukrainian troops were severely short of artillery, air defense systems and long-range weapons in Avdiivka, where the Ukrainians had been fighting a brutal Russian offensive for four months despite being outnumbered heavily.
Canadian assistance to Ukraine
At the beginning of February, Canada took a step towards updating the free trade agreement with Ukraine. There is one more round ahead – consideration of the document in the Senate of Canada.
The agreement does not obligate the Ukrainian government to introduce a carbon tax. However, it does contain provisions for cooperation between countries to “promote carbon pricing and measures to reduce the risks of carbon leakage.”
