President Vladimir Zelensky said that this year Ukraine will not only defend itself, but also prepare for a new counter-offensive.
In his interview with FoxNews, he said that in a war with such a large country as Russia, defense is also a challenge. The President added that this is task number one today.
Zelensky also commented on the 2023 summer campaign. He emphasized that rapid movement can lead to the loss of military personnel and it is necessary to think about the lives of the defenders. According to him, this is unacceptable for Ukraine, since everything can be lost. At the same time, the Ukrainian leader announced new surprises for the invaders in the Black Sea.
“The south is important. Defense of the east, where they have more than 200 thousand soldiers, is also very important… And, of course, we will prepare a new counter-offensive, a new operation. Of course, I’m not saying that we will just stand by. It depends on many things,” Zelensky said.
The head of state added that now the situation on the battlefield is not fair, since the forces of the parties are not equal. Ukraine needs weapons, in particular Patriot systems, long-range systems with a range of 300 km and other types.
New offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces – what is known
In January, the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kirill Budanov, said that a new Ukrainian counteroffensive could begin as early as the spring, immediately after the offensive of the Russian occupiers has completely dried up.
However, recently in an interview with WSJ, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate changed his mind. He said that if Ukraine can wage a smart defensive war this year, then next year our Armed Forces will be able to launch another counter-offensive.
The main question is whether Western allies are prepared to provide Ukraine with ammunition throughout the year while defense forces prepare for their operation.
Recently, ATO veteran Evgeniy Dikiy spoke about whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to launch a counter-offensive in the spring and on what factors it depends. In his opinion, the Russians do not yet really have the reserves and resources to attack for a long time, even at the pace they are now.
