There is a need for ammunition of different calibers: both 155 and 152, 122 and 105.
In order to achieve parity, and in some cases, dominance over the Russian occupation forces, Ukraine needs about 3.5-4 million shells of all calibers per year. This assessment was given by military-political observer Alexander Kovalenko.
“In order to return to some more or less this level of countering Russian capabilities, we need to return to the figure of about 7,000 rounds per day. That is, this is 210,000 rounds per month, we must have in reserve. If we want to get out to parity, and even in some cases of dominance, we must reach 10,000 shots per day or more,” he said in a comment to LIGA.net.
He emphasized that in order to be on par with the enemy, Ukraine must receive 300,000 ammunition monthly from its partners. Moreover, there is a need for different calibers: both 155 and 152, 122 and 105. We also need tank shots, rockets and the like.
Ukraine can independently produce 152-, 122- and 120-caliber ammunition. Enterprises are also trying to produce 155-caliber shells, but the volumes today are critically insufficient to achieve self-sufficiency.
Ammunition for Ukraine: it’s worth knowing
By the end of March, the European Union plans to supply Ukraine with almost 170 thousand shells that the Ukrainian army needs. Brussels is working to increase supply volumes. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said this.
At the same time, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the promised million 155 mm shells will be delivered to our country by the end of this year.
