The head of the country’s Ministry of Defense said that such bans were established by countries that transferred long-range weapons.
During the war against Russian occupiers, Ukraine can use weapons provided by Finland to strike the territory of the Russian Federation. Helsinki did not establish such prohibitions.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen said that restrictions on the use of weapons were set by countries that transferred long-range weapons systems to Ukraine.
“According to my information, Finland has not established such restrictions, and Ukraine should have the right to use these weapons against military targets also on Russian soil,” Jukka Kopra, chairman of the parliamentary defense committee, told Yle.
The issue arose when the future commander of the Estonian Defense Forces, Andrus Merilo, said that Western countries made a mistake by limiting Ukraine’s use of weapons, allowing strikes only on the temporarily occupied territory of the country.
