It is in these areas that the main efforts of pyrotechnicians are now concentrated.
Three regions of Ukraine are the most contaminated with explosive objects. This statement was made by the head of the department for organizing work on humanitarian demining of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Sergei Reva.
“Today, I would identify three main regions that are the most contaminated – these are the Kharkov, Donetsk and Kherson regions, if we talk about de-occupied territories. These are the main areas that we are currently working on and on which the main efforts are concentrated,” he said during the press briefing.
It is noted that the number of pyrotechnic units in Ukraine is constantly growing. Today we are talking about more than 340 settlements, which number almost 1,900 people.
“During 2025-2027, a further gradual increase in this number is also expected,” Reva added.
Mine danger in Ukraine
Because of the Russian war against Ukraine, our state has become one of the most contaminated with explosive objects in the world. Back in November 2023, TIME wrote that demining Ukraine would take 757 years. It was noted that a third of Ukrainian territory is strewn with millions of unexploded mines and cluster bombs, as well as wires, booby traps and shell fragments.
Despite the significant danger, people try to remove enemy shells on their own. A few months ago, the State Emergency Service spoke about a grandmother who laid mines near her house with her bare hands. Rescuers urged not to do this and to immediately call specialists.
