March 5 according to the new style (March 18 according to the old style) is the day of remembrance of the holy martyr Konon of Mandon.
Conon was born at the beginning of the 3rd century, in Nazareth. He was a kind and simple-minded Christian, led a quiet life, tended to the garden, from which he ate. They knew him as Conon of Mandon, since he lived in the small town of Mandon.
During the reign of the Roman emperor Decius Trajan, Christians were persecuted – and Conon in particular. He was captured, but since Konon supplied food to the imperial table, they decided not to execute him immediately, but suggested that he renounce his faith. Conon did not agree, so to punish him, they drove nails into his feet and forced him to run in front of the chariot until he fell and died under the hooves of the horses.
