Six Russian citizens have been ordered to leave the country in the near future.
Citizens of the Russian Federation who do not have a residence permit in Latvia have been ordered to leave the country.
According to Der Standart, according to the migration department, six Russians received the corresponding notification. As the head of the department, Maira Rose, clarified, two of them have already left the country, and the rest will do so within 30 days.
These measures are related to changes in the country’s immigration legislation, adopted in the fall of 2022 in response to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Now every Russian, if he wishes to live legally in Latvia, must apply for permanent resident status and confirm his knowledge of the Latvian language in an exam.
Those Russians who have not met the requirements for obtaining a residence permit must leave the country.
According to authorities, there are currently approximately a thousand Russians living in Latvia who are subject to deportation.
Russians in Latvia
In the fall of 2022, Latvia introduced an entry restriction for Russian citizens. At the same time, the issuance of visas to Russians was limited.
And in January of this year, the Latvian authorities warned a thousand Russians living in the country about the need to leave the country or regulate their residence status in accordance with the law.
