It is known that Canada has already transferred more than 100 specialized cameras for drones to Ukraine.
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair has promised to take part in an international “drone coalition” for Ukraine, led by Latvia and the UK. He stated this during a meeting with Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds, the press service of the Canadian government reports.
The department notes that as a member of this coalition, Ottawa will continue to look for ways to expand Ukraine’s capabilities in the field of drones.
The government also noted that today Canada has made a “significant contribution” to strengthening Ukraine’s development in the field of UAVs, having transferred to our state more than 100 specialized cameras for drones manufactured by L3 Wescam.
“In addition to these donations, Blair last month announced the donation of more than 800 additional drones from Waterloo, Ontario-based Teledyne FLIR,” the press release said.
Drone coalition for Ukraine: what is known
At the beginning of 2024, Latvia announced that the country plans to unite almost 20 states into a coalition that will help Ukraine have more drones to confront the enemy at the front. Then Andris Spruds stated that thanks to this, Ukraine would receive thousands of drones.
Already in mid-February, it became known that a group of NATO member countries, which united into a “coalition of drones,” would provide Ukraine with a million UAVs, and a new NATO Joint Training and Analytical Center would be created in Poland to train Ukrainian and NATO troops.
As wrote, on February 17, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced that the “coalition of drones” had officially started.
“This is a milestone on the path to achieving technological superiority over our enemy. Serial production and supply of UAVs significantly expand the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he noted then.
It also became known that the UK will transfer another 10 thousand drones to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the total cost of which is 125 million pounds.
“I urge international partners to join the UK in this effort. Ukraine’s armed forces are using UK-provided weapons to unprecedented effect, helping to destroy almost 30% of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet,” said Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.
