Congress must pass six more bills by March 22.
US President Joe Biden signed a package of six bills to finance a number of government agencies until the end of the fiscal year (September 30), which will allow the country to avoid a shutdown.
The head of the White House signed the documents on Saturday, March 9, just a few hours before the possible onset of the shutdown.
The package would provide more than $460 billion in funding for the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Commerce and Energy, among others.
At the same time, the threat of a partial shutdown in the United States still remains. By March 22, Congress needs to pass six more bills, including on defense, state security and national security funding. The vote on the second package is expected to be more difficult.
USA and assistance to Ukraine
Earlier, wrote that the US Senate passed a bill with $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, but the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike, did not put it to a vote. He demands that the issue be addressed after US government funding continues.
Media reported that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, and the heads of key committees are working to create a new draft aid package for Ukraine that could pass Congress. In this case, voting on the document will be postponed to April.
