Protesters say that agricultural products from Ukraine and the Russian Federation enter the country through it.
At 10:00 local time, Polish farmers from the Orava and Pydgall regions began blocking the Hizne checkpoint on the Slovak border. RMF24 reports this.
According to farmers, agricultural products from Ukraine and the Russian Federation are imported to Poland via these routes. Farmers intend to block the passage until the end of March.
They previously said they would check trucks and allow one truck per hour through. At the same time, there were no plans to restrict the movement of cars, pedestrians and cyclists.
Polish farmers informed the Jablonka commune (a rural commune in southern Poland) in advance about a new protest. The reason for the blocking was called “an uncontrolled influx of grain from Ukraine to the European Union, which causes destabilization in the grain market and creates a difficult economic situation for farmers.”
In addition, farmers are protesting against the so-called Green Deal introduced by the EU. It is called unfavorable for farming.
Polish protests – latest news
As of Thursday, March 14, Polish protesters have completely blocked five checkpoints for trucks from Ukraine. This applies to the points “Yagodin”, “Ustilug”, “Ugrinov”, “Rava-Russkaya” and “Shegini”.
Earlier, protesters said that the Yagodin-Dorogusk checkpoint would be completely unblocked, but the protesters did not express full agreement, so the organizers limited themselves to increasing the number of trucks allowed across the border.
