The most useful include three types of meat.
Meat is healthy, but not all meat, nutritionists say. And the point is not always in its color – whether it is red or white, but also in how it is grown, how it is prepared, and also in what quantity it is consumed. Let’s figure out which meat is healthier than others and why.
The healthiest types of meat
Meat is a rich source of protein, as well as iron, zinc and B vitamins. But, nutritionists warn, you should not abuse it – even if it is dietary. Experts identified the most useful types as:
It has no competitors – it was recognized as the most useful, since it does not contain antibiotics and hormones (like, for example, pork and beef). Rabbit meat also contains a lot of iron, zinc, phosphorus, B vitamins, and it is absorbed by the body more easily than other types, since it contains little fat and cholesterol.
It is rabbit meat that is recommended to be used in children’s diets.
In second place are poultry, chicken and turkey. It contains less fat than beef and pork, although it can also increase blood cholesterol levels.
If possible, opt for turkey. It has less fat and calories, and more protein. Turkey is also rich in vitamin B3, which controls cholesterol levels in the blood.
In third place is lamb. It is commonly considered fatty meat, but it is actually a rich source of protein and contains several times less cholesterol than beef and pork. In addition, lamb contains creatine, which is necessary for muscle growth.
How much meat can you eat per week
For each person, recommendations may be different, since the amount of meat largely depends on the individual characteristics of the body and health.
Generally speaking, cardiologists call 350-500 g a safe amount of meat per week.
Don’t forget that protein is found not only in meat, but also in plant foods – for example, nuts and legumes. At the same time, it is not recommended to completely replace meat with them.
What form of meat is the healthiest?
If we talk about the cooking method, the healthiest meat is boiled, baked, steamed, but not fried. If you like meat with a crust, cook it on the grill; this method is much safer than frying.
As for hormones and antibiotics, small tricks help get rid of them. For example, before cooking meat, you need to soak it for an hour and drain the first broth.
