Components for the conversion will be taken from faulty vehicles and donor aircraft.
The Aeroflot group, which was previously recommended not to fly to Egypt, intends to get rid of business class on several Superjet 100s. We are talking about nine aircraft of its subsidiary, Rossiya Airlines. It lacks 100-seat aircraft of this type on resort and tourist routes, where passengers are not willing to overpay for increased comfort, Izvestia writes with reference to the investment project.
It is noted that the company is going to spend more than 330 million rubles ($2.51 million) on reconfiguration, replacing 12 business class seats with 25 economy ones. This will allow Aeroflot to increase its income by more than 300 million rubles per year.
Components will be taken from faulty vehicles, donor aircraft and spare parts from the warehouse stocks of Yakovlev PJSC. The timing of the re-arrangement work is planned based on the aircraft maintenance schedule, after the high air travel season from the end of September this year to mid-April 2025.
The airline said that the issue of reconfiguring the Superjet is under study, refusing other details. As follows from the materials of the investment program, agreement is expected from Aeroflot with the lessors of donor aircraft on the use of seats from idle SSJs, the authors write.
The justification states that Rossiya lacks 100-seat Superjet aircraft, which are relevant on many airline flights, especially on resort and tourist routes, “when passengers are not willing to overpay for business class.” Carrying 100 people in the economy segment becomes more profitable than 75 in economy class and only a few in business.
Experts do not rule out that in the future Aeroflot will refuse business class on more Rossiya Superjet aircraft.
Aviation industry of the Russian Federation
Russia’s seizure of planes owned by foreign companies has sparked the biggest showdown in history in the normally healthy aviation insurance business. We are talking about billions of dollars, more than 400 aircraft, hundreds of millions of legal expenses.
In February, several air accidents involving aircraft of the Special Flight Detachment “Russia” were already recorded in Russia. This enterprise provides transportation for officials, as well as representatives of special services and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
