A scheme to support the defense of Scotland and Ukraine needs to be created so that Scottish authorities can work with industry, colleges and universities on programs that could help in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Scottish Government should facilitate the production of weapons to be sent to the front lines in Ukraine. This was stated by MP from the Scottish National Party Stuart MacDonald, writes The Times.
The politician called on ministers to “play a more active role in supporting Scotland’s domestic defense sector by improving the skills and contribution it makes to the overall Western effort to support Ukraine.”
He said a “Scottish and Ukrainian defense support scheme” needed to be created so the Scottish Government could work with industry, colleges, universities and the UK Government on programs that could help fight the Russian invasion.
“Such a scheme could also explore the creation of new partnership opportunities to support Ukraine’s domestic defense sector through investment in skills, apprenticeships, research and development,” McDonald said.
The MP said the move would create jobs in Scotland and help fill the “skills gap” in the defense industry. Thanks to this program, Scotland will receive economic benefits and will also support its ally – Ukraine
