The Pontiff believes that the continuation of the war is a defeat in itself.
Pope Francis called for speedy peace negotiations in Ukraine and Palestine, since continued war, according to him, is always a defeat. Vatican News reports this.
The Pontiff noted that “the exhausted peoples of Ukraine and the Holy Land, Palestine and Israel” today “suffer greatly from the horror of war.”
“Let us never forget that war is always a defeat. We cannot continue the war. We must make every effort to negotiate an end to the war,” Francis said.
Pope’s White Flag Statement
As wrote, in early March, Pope Francis said in an interview with journalists that in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the losing side must find the courage to admit it and agree to negotiations.
“I believe that the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people, has the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate will be stronger,” Francis said.
His words caused a storm of indignation not only in Ukraine, but also in the West, where even Catholic bishops demanded an explanation from the Pope.
But the Pontiff’s statements found understanding in the Kremlin.
