According to experts, Russian guns fire about five times more shells than Ukrainian ones.
The Russian Federation’s armed forces are superior to the Ukrainians, but they are depleting their artillery. This is stated in the material of The Economist.
The publication notes that Russian guns fire approximately five times more shells than Ukrainian ones. At the same time, the fighting has intensified in recent weeks, and Russia’s firepower “gives it a clear advantage,” however, it will be difficult to increase production, because weapon barrels are made with special equipment from high-quality steel.
“At the start of the war, only two Russian factories were equipped to make them. Few countries export shotgun barrels, and even fewer sell them to Russia: North Korea is a possible source, as it was already supplying shells. But satellite imagery suggests Russia It is replacing most of the large weapons it is losing with stockpiles that are stored in the open,” analysts say.
They also stress that it is difficult to estimate the rate at which Ukraine is destroying Russian artillery: large guns are usually placed far from the front line, making them difficult to count.
“Russia is expected to run out of guns by 2025, says one informed analyst, and will then have to rely on rocket artillery, which requires a much larger stockpile of explosives,” the newspaper said.
At the same time, experts add that Ukraine has become much better at destroying Russian artillery over the past year, as its detection systems have improved: counter-battery radar provided by its allies tracks Russian shells to their source.
“A large number of small kamikaze drones launched up to 20 km from the target could destroy Russian guns. The invaders could protect their artillery by moving it further from the front line, or withdrawing some units altogether. But this would hinder their ability to hit the Ukrainians. For This would be a welcome relief for defenders,” the authors of the article summarize.
