The first mention of any settlements on the territory of present-day Russia appeared 160 years after Rus’ was baptized in Kyiv, Malyuk emphasized.
In 988, Rus’ was baptized in Kyiv, while there was nothing on the territory of modern Russia. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has his hands on Ukraine because he wants to rewrite that history. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasily Malyuk.
“Russia is a fake country. This is a country of complete propaganda. You and I must look deeper into history. In general, why is Putler reaching here with his tentacles? This is his life credo, we understand that in his old age he is realizing what he is about I dreamed and thought all my life. I’ll explain to you. Because it was here, in Kiev, that Rus’ was baptized in 988. What happened in 988 there, in Muscovy, there were frogs croaking,” he said in an interview with ICTV as part of the telethon.
Malyuk emphasized that the first mention of any settlements in that territory appeared 160 years after Rus’ was baptized in Kyiv.
“They constantly want to rewrite this history. On the maps until the 17th century there wasn’t even a name like Russia – there was Muscovy. Everything was rewritten, although the primary sources talk about other things, you just need to take a deeper look at it. And Putin is working on this, and all of them propaganda machine – they are constantly working on it,” he stated.
How history is distorted in Russia
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has repeatedly made statements in which he distorted Ukrainian history. In particular, statements were repeatedly made that Ukraine was allegedly created by Lenin. In addition, in Russia they lie about Ukraine in school textbooks and even published a collection of documents “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians.”
In April 2023, Putin instructed to consider the issue of organizing a study of the history of the so-called “SVO,” as in Russia they call a full-scale war against Ukraine. The dictator also ordered the creation of museums dedicated to the invasion.
British intelligence noted in November 2023 that Russian authorities are increasingly using history as a weapon to increase anti-Western sentiment among its citizens and intimidate its Western neighbors.
