The words “brawler” and “hooligan” can often be heard in the Ukrainian language. However, they are “stray words,” linguist Alexander Avramenko told Snidanka z 1+1 on air.
Thus, the word “brawler” was borrowed from the French language. At the same time, “hooligan” came to us from English. However, the Ukrainian language has its own words that are used to describe impudent people who disturb public peace:
- beshketnik,
- shibenik,
- rozbishaka,
- bully,
- factory,
- rogue,
- Shibayhead,
- hallamidnik,
- fire water.
The linguist noted that all these words are synonyms. However, each of them has its own shades of meaning.
