March 28, 2024 – what church holiday is today according to the new and old calendar

March 28 according to the new style (April 10 according to the old style) is the day of remembrance of St. Hilarion the New, who lived in the 7th-8th centuries and had the gift of miracles.

Hilarion the New, abbot of Pelicitsky, decided to become a monk from his youth and spent many years in seclusion. For his righteousness, he first received the rank of presbyter, and later he was elected abbot of the Pelicite monastery (near the Dardanelles, the monastery was destroyed in the 19th century). From God, the Monk Hilarion received the gift of clairvoyance and miracles: with the help of prayer, the saint cast out demons, healed the sick and blind, influenced the weather and fish catch, and drove away pests from the fields.

When the iconoclastic war began, the Byzantine commander Michael Lakhanodrakon burst into the Pelicite monastery. His soldiers captured and chained 42 monks, who were later killed. The rest were brutally tortured – Hilarion the New was among the martyrs. They all died.

Holiday March 28th according to the old style – day of remembrance of the martyr Agapius and with him seven martyrs: Pullius, Timolaus, Romilus, two Alexanders and two Dionysius.

On this day they watch the sun set – if it is big and red, then tomorrow the weather will be clear.

What can you do on March 28

They ask St. Hilarion for healing from serious illnesses; it is believed that the saint helps get rid of blindness and poor eyesight, and also protects from all evil.

Lent 2024 continues; those who fast can eat hot food without oil on this day.

On March 28, you can do household chores – clean the house, do minor repairs, work in the garden.

What not to do on March 28

Among the prohibitions, what you cannot do today is to quarrel, get angry, use foul language, envy, be offended and offend someone, and refuse help.

Popular omens do not advise thinking about bad things – all thoughts must be pure, otherwise you can attract bad things to yourself. You should not empty your pockets on this day – this means poverty.
