Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky commented on the resignation of Valery Zaluzhny, noting that since this happened during the active phase of the war, it is clear that Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Zelensky had good reasons for making the decision. Syrsky said this in an interview with Ukrinform, answering a question about the reasons for the changes in the military leadership.

“The military has one duty – we do not discuss orders, we carry them out. Therefore, if the President of the country, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, had reasons for such a replacement, especially during the active phase of the war, this means that these reasons are weighty,” – Syrsky emphasized.

He added that he worked side by side with Zaluzhny during the most difficult times since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, and before as well.

“We worked as one team… I can say that all our knowledge and all the experience that was acquired during a full-scale war in battles with superior enemy forces will be aimed at increasing the effectiveness of our actions and maximizing the destruction of enemy strike forces,” – noted Syrsky.

According to him, on this basis, the algorithm for the work of military command and control bodies at all levels is now being worked out. We are talking about detailed, careful planning of the actions of formations, formations and units, taking into account the needs of the front.

“Our headquarters must know all, without exception, the needs of the front and control the situation in each of its sectors. In this, the qualifications of officers belonging to military command bodies come to the fore,” said the Commander-in-Chief.

Zaluzhny’s dismissal – what is known

As reported, on February 8, 2024, it became known that the President of Ukraine signed a decree dismissing Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Zaluzhny has held this position since 2021. Alexander Syrsky became the new commander-in-chief. Subsequently, Zelensky agreed on the candidacy of Valery Zaluzhny for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The President said that Zaluzhny himself chose the diplomatic direction for himself.

“General Valeriy Zaluzhny told me exactly this direction for himself – diplomatic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent a corresponding request for agreman. Our alliance with Britain should only strengthen,” he explained.

In March, the publication ZN.UA, citing sources, reported that General Zaluzhny, before being appointed ambassador to the UK, passed the Military Military Test and was declared unfit for military service.
