The Ukrainian Armed Forces are not only on the defensive, but also moving forward, the commander-in-chief said.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky assures that although the situation at the front is now difficult, our defenders are regaining more positions than they are losing.
“The situation at the front is really difficult. But at the front it is never different. Of course, every day requires maximum effort from our soldiers and officers. But we are not only on the defensive, but also every day in different directions we ourselves are moving forward. In addition Moreover, the number of positions we have returned exceeds the number of lost ones. The enemy has not been able to make significant progress in strategic directions; his territorial gains, if they exist, are of tactical significance. We control this situation,” he said in an interview with Ukrinform.
He noted that the enemy has significantly increased aviation activity in recent months, using guided bombs that destroy the positions of Ukrainian fighters. In addition, the enemy is conducting dense artillery and mortar fire.
“Just a few days ago, the enemy’s advantage in fired ammunition was about 6:1,” stated Syrsky.
At the same time, he noted that Ukrainian defenders have learned to fight not with the quantity of ammunition, but with the skill of using the weapons that they have. They are making the most of their advantage in unmanned aircraft. Although the enemy is trying to catch up with this effective type of weapon.
“The enemy continues offensive operations on a broad front, trying at any cost to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, to push us out on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Zaporozhye region. In certain sections of the front, we managed to level the situation with artillery, and this immediately affected the situation as a whole. Our artillerymen use high-precision ammunition to destroy enemy concentrations even tens of kilometers from the front line. Every day the enemy not only suffers significant losses in manpower and equipment, in particular artillery systems, but he can never feel safe anywhere, also temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This is an important psychological factor,” the commander-in-chief said.
He said that in February-March of this year alone, the enemy lost more than 570 tanks, about 1,430 armored combat vehicles, almost 1,680 artillery systems and 64 air defense systems.
“At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to maintain control over key heights and defense areas. Our goal is to prevent the loss of our territory, deplete the enemy as much as possible, inflict the most possible losses on him, form and prepare reserves for offensive actions,” Syrsky emphasized .
War in Ukraine – the situation at the front
As reported, according to the latest information from analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have slowed down the pace of the Russian Federation’s advance west of Avdiivka after Russian troops captured the city on February 17. Moreover, Ukrainian defenders are preventing the occupiers from achieving significant tactical gains along the entire front line, but delays in the provision of US military assistance may increase Russia’s chances of achieving this.
Since the beginning of their offensive, which started in October 2023, the Russians have already captured 505 square kilometers of Ukrainian land. This year in particular, they have advanced 100 square kilometers.
