This week has been full of foldable smartphone releases. Four new items were released at once: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 , Motorola Razr 2022 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 . At the same time, the category of folding solutions is the fastest growing this year, and Counterpoint Research researchers are already predicting unprecedented heights for it. It is reported that by the end of 2022, the global market for devices with flexible screens will grow by 73% from 9 million (in 2021) to 16 million units. The forecast for next year is no less optimistic: 26 million units. And this is despite the negative dynamics of the smartphone market as a whole .

The lion’s share of the market is now occupied by Samsung (62%), and by the beginning of 2023 this figure could reach 80% due to a new wave of sales of fresh Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4. Surprisingly, the second line is not occupied by Vivo or Xiaomi, but by Huawei with share of about 16%. The third position went to OPPO (3%), and the shares of other brands are so small that they are not even highlighted by the researchers.
