The YouTube Premium family plan in the US will rise to $22.99 from November 21 – in Ukraine it now costs UAH 149

YouTube Premium has experienced its first major price increase in the US and elsewhere. The service will now charge $22.99 per month for the family plan.

It was announced to subscribers that the monthly cost of the YouTube Premium Family plan will increase from $17.99 per month to $22.99 – an increase of more than 25%. The tariff allows you to use the same subscription for six accounts.

“This change will take effect on the next billing cycle starting on or after November 21, 2022,” Google said in a letter to users.

YouTube doesn’t appear to be raising the price of Premium for individual accounts. Some still show up as $11.99 on the YouTube website, even though others already have their new family prices (pictured below). Initial subscribers to the YouTube Red system plan, who have received a price increase to $14.99 over the past few years, will also experience an increase to $22.99, but not until April.

On the support page, Google notes that it will notify customers at least 30 days before the price changes. The increase is also confirmed in the following countries (in some of them, the price of an individual subscription has also increased):

  • Canada: CAD 17.99 – 22.99
  • UK: £17.99 – £19.99
  • India: Individual Plan Rs 119-389, Family Plan Rs 179-699
  • Turkey (custom plan): 16.99 – 29.99 TL
  • Japan: 1780 – 2280 yen

In Ukraine, YouTube Premium currently costs 99 UAH for an individual and 149 UAH for a family. There are no reports of an increase.

The unexpected price hike comes just days after YouTube ended an “experiment” in which 4K video resolution was displayed as a paid Premium feature for some users.

YouTube will leave 4K among the basic features – the experiment to limit high-quality video to a Premium subscription is over
