Qualcomm has released a transcript of its quarterly investor call. In its opening part, the company’s chief financial officer Akash Palkhivala said that an excess of chipsets that has developed among smartphone manufacturers has a negative impact on sales, but the company expects an increase in orders from Samsung by March next year. One of the listeners, senior analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Stacey Aaron Rasgon, this combination of statements seemed strange. During the Q&A session, she asked Palhivala where the increase in orders from Samsung will come from if, like everyone else, it suffers from an excess of chipsets?

Here is Akash Palhiwala’s answer in full: “Understood, Stacey. This is Akash. In terms of the first quarter, you’re right, the benefits from the launch of the new Samsung phone will be in… somewhere in the second half of the first quarter. And while the effect will be closer to the end of the quarter, the advantage will be as our share of 75% in G S22 will increase to a global share in G S23.” It’s not hard to guess what Akash means: the Galaxy S23 will ship worldwide with Qualcomm chipsets. Undoubtedly, we are talking about Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Thus, the fate of the Exynos line remains completely incomprehensible. Suppose there will be no new flagship chipset – but will they refuse to create budget SoCs along with it, for example, to replace the Exynos 850 and Exynos 1280. In addition, it is not clear whether Samsung plans to continue working with Google on the Tensor line – or whether the search giant you have to support it yourself.
