The planned Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Margot Robbie still has a chance, according to its producer. The last film in the franchise, 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was the last installment in which Johnny Depp played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. A sequel starring Margot Robbie was announced in June 2020, but Robbie said in an interview last month that the project had been shelved.
The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer. He expressed confidence that both promised projects (the official Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and the Robbie spin-off) are still in development. He said Robbie’s comment may have been rash.
“I think we are very close to [Пиратам 6] also. We have a very good script. We developed two of them, one with Margot Robbie and one with a young cast. The film with Margot Robbie needs some work. Hodson’s other credits include the 2018 Transformers prequel Bumblebee, HBO Max’s Batgirl, which was recently canceled in post-production, and the upcoming DC film The Flash.
Margot Robbie’s busyness was also a problem for the new film of the franchise. This year, she starred in David Russell’s Amsterdam, Damien Chazelle’s comedy-drama Babylon, and Greta Gerwig’s 2023 Barbie. If the latter gets a sequel, or his DC character Harley Quinn is offered a new project, it will make the chances of a new Pirates of the Caribbean more bleak, even if the script moves from dead center.

In an interview, Bruckheimer noted that Depp still has the potential to return as Jack Sparrow in some capacity. However, during a defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor said he was no longer interested in returning to the franchise.
But while some are too busy or talk too much, others do useful things. Johnny Depp continues to play Jack Sparrow, albeit in more modest, but no less important projects. The actor in the image of the glorified captain made a video call to a terminally ill 11-year-old boy.
