In post-apocalyptic video game franchises with constant battles between humanity and a host of fantastical creatures, violence is usually at the heart of the gameplay. The Last of Us dilogy is not an exception, so many people thought about the question – will the series be so cruel? One of the creators of the film adaptation, Neil Druckmann, in an interview with SFX magazine, explained why the series will “reduce the level of violence”:

“We needed a certain amount of violence for the mechanics [игры] – so that you are connected to Joel’s screen avatar and see the world through his eyes. But this is not necessary in a passive environment. One of the things I really enjoyed hearing from [соавтора Крейга Мейзина] and HBO is, “Let’s remove all but the most important violence.”

In a previous interview with IGN, Druckmann hinted that the show would actually move away from the “hardcore action genre”:

HBO pushed us away from violent action to focus on character drama. Some of my favorite episodes are very different from the plot [игры]and I can’t wait for people to see them.”

The Last of Us was released on June 14, 2013 to critical and user acclaim, including for its level of detail. After an unsuccessful adaptation attempt in 2014, fans of the franchise will be able to see the finished series, which will tell the story of how humanity tries to save itself from the deadly cordyceps fungus. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and his partner Tess (Anna Torv) will try to ferry the only person immune to the virus, 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsay), to the firefly fighting group.
