All Apple iPhone 15 will get Dynamic Island and USB-C, new iPhone SE no longer planned - Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple plans to use Dynamic Island in all four iPhone 15s that will be released in late 2023. Currently, the “island” is only available in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that the iPhone 15 series will offer the same screen sizes as the iPhone 14. According to him, the names of the models will remain the same – only the generation number will be changed.

The Dynamic Island is an area at the top of the iPhone display that replaces the notch on previous models. With the help of Dynamic Island software, it takes various forms and supports live actions, displays system warnings and other information. Previously, insiders already claimed that Dynamic Island will be available on all four iPhone 15 models – now this information has been confirmed by Gurman.

Another confirmed innovation is USB-C instead of Lightning on all four models. USB-C is a universal charging standard and provides faster data transfer rates than Lightning. The European Union also requires the support of a single universal charging standard.

According to Gurman, the iPhone 15 Pro will have a titanium frame with touch buttons for volume control. The Taptic Engine will simulate the feeling of pressing buttons, similar to how the Home button on the iPhone SE and the new MacBook trackpads work.

But the iPhone SE itself may soon go down in history. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has informed suppliers about canceling the release of its inexpensive fourth-generation smartphone in 2024. Previously, the analyst claimed that the release of the new iPhone SE will be canceled or delayed, but now he firmly believes in the cancellation.

iPhone 15 SE

According to early reports, Apple planned to introduce the first proprietary 5G chip in the fourth-generation iPhone SE – obviously, this will not happen now. Apple will likely continue to rely on Qualcomm’s 5G chips until 2024, in the iPhone 15 and 16 series. The iPhone SE was supposed to be a test platform for its own 5G variant. This is caused by the fear of insufficient power of the chip against the solutions of competitors.

The third-generation iPhone SE was released last March with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X57 5G modem. Most likely, the iPhone 15 models will use the Snapdragon X70 modem, while the iPhone 16 will use the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon X75.

As usual, Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series in September.
