Car customs clearance reform: a calculator for calculating the cost of customs payments has been launched on the Diya website

Ukrainian officials continue to promise to implement easier customs clearance of cars through the Diya system. It will be recalled that Prime Minister Denys Shmigal spoke about this at the beginning of the summer of 2022. At that time, it was expected that the service would be launched by July 1 (although he did not specify the year at that time). And for the first time, customs clearance through the Diya application was discussed in the government in May, and in September, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the corresponding experimental project. Although the situation has not changed yet, there is still a shift in this issue.

As noted in the Ministry of Digital Affairs, work is currently underway on the legislative framework to enable digital customs clearance of cars. This will simplify the process and prevent corruption schemes.

According to the plan, the cost of the customs duty will depend on only three parameters of the car: the year of manufacture of the car, the type and volume of the engine (power in the case of electric cars). It will be enough to enter these parameters into the calculator, and the system will automatically calculate the cost of customs clearance of the car.

“For example, you have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. On gasoline and with an engine volume of 2 liters. According to the new rules, pay UAH 5,280. instead of UAH 19,320,” writes the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.

The Ministry of Statistics believes that the new calculation algorithm and the service in a few clicks through the Diya system will eliminate the human factor and the corruption component. In addition, the new mechanism will simplify life and save money for thousands of Ukrainians.

Currently, a calculator for calculating the cost of customs clearance of a car is already working on the Diya website in test mode. Interested persons can use it, and also leave your feedback about the new calculation system.

The service is implemented by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the State Customs Service with the support of the USAID/UK aid project “Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration and Services/TAPAS”.
