The Prometheus platform announced that it is the first in Ukraine to provide access to popular free courses created by the Linux Foundation. The courses are translated into Ukrainian.

Trainees can choose from three courses or take all of the training programs to learn the basics of Linux, Git distributed development, and Kubernetes fundamentals. The Veteranius team (Razom for Ukraine project) joined the fundraising.

Linux Basics

The “Linux Basics” course starts on February 20 and will last 14 weeks. It is designed specifically for beginners and will provide a theoretical basis of Linux, teach you how to use both the graphical interface and the command line in the main families of Linux distributions.

Students will be introduced to the tools and techniques commonly used by system administrators and Linux end users to perform day-to-day work in a Linux environment. The course will allow you to easily navigate any of the main Linux distributions and continue your professional path as a system administrator, developer or just a confident user. The authors of the course believe that students will spend 5-7 hours a week studying.

Git for distributed software development

This course starts on February 23 and is designed for 14 weeks. Students will learn what Git is, how to install it, how to initialize a repository, make changes, make it available to others, and receive and use changes made by others. The course will teach you how to find errors in your own and other people’s work, as well as introduce basic Git procedures such as cloning, branching, creating commits, using diff, merging, and rebasing.

The course is suitable for students who have experience in development on any operating system. Experience working with the command line will also be useful, but this condition is not mandatory. Students will need 1-2 hours a week to fully master the materials of this course.

Kubernetes basics

The Kubernetes Basics course starts at the beginning of March and will last 14 weeks. The course will cover the topics of system architecture, the tasks it solves, and the model used to handle containers and scale-out deployments. The course includes technical instructions for deploying a stand-alone and multi-tier application. Students will learn about ConfigMaps and Secrets, as well as how to use Ingress.

The course is designed for users with basic knowledge of the Linux Command Line Interface (CLI) and an understanding of container technologies. The estimated workload for students is 2-3 hours per week.
