A new report from Sellcell examines the decline in the price of flagship smartphones from Apple, Samsung and Google. As in the past, the current iPhone 14 line has retained the highest residual value – 31-32% of the original cost. The new Samsung S23 line has an average 40% lower resale price. Google Pixel 7 devices are being resold for 48% less.

The company studied data on the secondary market value of the entire iPhone 14 line, the new Samsung Galaxy S23 line, and the Pixel 7 line. The iPhone 14 and Pixel 7 models were available for about six months, and depreciation periods of one and two months were chosen because the Samsung Galaxy S23 with appeared only in February.

The latest iPhones in like-new condition lost 32.3% in price in the first month, compared to 41.1 and 43.1% for the Galaxy S23 and Pixel 7. After two months, the iPhones were actually about the same, while Galaxy and Pixel continued to decline. The two-month comparison showed the iPhone losing 31% compared to the Galaxy S23 and Pixel 7’s 43.3 and 45.9% respectively.

The report also reveals the depreciation of each specific model of the iPhone 14, Galaxy S23 and Pixel 7 over a period of one and two months in “as new” and “good” conditions. At the same time, the iPhone 14 Pro Max 128 GB became cheaper by only 13.6% in two months.

The Galaxy smartphone with the least price drop is the S23 Plus 256GB, down 36.4%, and the Google device with the least price drop is the Pixel 7 Pro 128GB, down 39.4%.
