Last week, rumors began to circulate that Google intends to shut down its Stadia gaming service this year. Given the search giant’s passion for shutting down its services frequently, these rumors seemed plausible. To refute them, Google had to make a special statement.

Information about the impending closure of Stadia was published by Cody Ogden, blogger and Twitter account Killed by Google. He shared a post from a Facebook fan group. According to the post, an “old colleague and friend” told the author of the post that Google recently held a meeting to discuss the future of Stadia – or lack of it. At the same time, it was claimed that by the end of the summer the company will close the platform using the same strategy as with Google Play Music. The rumor of an impending closure fell on fertile ground, fertilized by the recent closure of Google’s own Stadia game studios .
Google was quick to deny the Stadia closure rumor.
“Stadia is not shutting down,” the official Stadia Twitter account said in response to a question from a concerned fan. “Rest assured, we’re always working to bring more great games to the platform and Stadia Pro.”
