As the report for the second quarter of 2022 showed, the global smartphone market continues its rapid decline, and sales in China have completely collapsed to the level of 2012 . Now it’s time to look at the situation in Europe, which reveals the latest report from Counterpoint Research. In general, the fall of the European market is ahead of the global indicator (11% versus 9%): if in the first quarter of the year 46.6 million devices were shipped, now we are talking about 40.3 million.
Comparing current data with last year’s figures, the researchers found a significant increase in both Samsung, which consolidated its status as the market leader in Europe (from 27% to 32%), and Apple (from 21% to 24%). But for Chinese brands, market share is rapidly falling, which is why they plan to focus on mid-range devices in 2023 (which, we believe, will only save the situation ).
A particularly strong drawdown is observed in Xiaomi, whose share has decreased from 27% in Q2 2021 to 19% now. Commenting on the current situation, the researchers state bleak dynamics and, at best, expect a slow, long recovery, provided that the bottom has been reached. How it will turn out in practice is difficult to predict.
