Activision Blizzard released its quarterly financial report. He testifies that due to the sharp drop in sales of PC and consoles, corresponding revenues are also declining, and mobile games now bring more than half of its income.
King Digital Entertainment, responsible for the release of the games Candy Crush, Farm Heroes, Bubble Witch and bought out by Activision Blizzard in 2016, is a real money printer. Last quarter, it brought in $685 million to the parent company’s piggy bank, while Activision and Blizzard earned $600 million and $296 million, respectively.
Activision earned more than others in the console market – $ 360 million. Another $ 100 million was brought by the PC market, $ 135 million was revenue from mobile platforms (Call of Duty Mobile earned most of it).
In early June, Blizzard released the unpopular but lucrative Diablo Immortal, which has already raised over $100 million. The company managed to make another $229 million from PC games like World of Warcraft and Overwatch. But the company only earned $19 million from consoles.
Adding these numbers together, Activision Blizzard’s mobile revenue for the past quarter accounted for more than half of total revenue, at 50.5% or $831M. Console and PC gaming revenue almost halved in a year, falling to $376M (23%) and $332 million (20%), respectively. Other sources of revenue, primarily live streaming and esports, accounted for about 6% of the company’s $100 million revenue.
PC and console gaming revenues are expected to pick up later this year as Overwatch 2, CoD Modern Warfare 2, and the Dragonflight expansion for World of Warcraft hit the market.
