Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 5 open beta to Galaxy S22 owners in the US, Germany, and South Korea. The update comes just a few weeks before the expected release of Android 13 and just a few days before the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. The One UI 5 beta looks like a relatively minor update that adds some customization options, notification tweaks, and new accessibility and security options.
Based on Android 13’s Theme Options, One UI 5 offers up to 16 preset color themes based on wallpapers and 12 additional color options for the home screen, icons, and quick access panels. It also introduces a way to place widgets of the same size on top of each other.
There are also some new accessibility features, including the Magnifier tool, which uses the phone’s camera to zoom in on real objects and text. And there are solutions that allow the smartphone to read keyboard input aloud.
However, One UI 5 borrowed from Android 13 new notification settings that require app developers to ask for your permission before sending you notifications. The One UI 5 beta also lets you set your preferred language for each app and gives you access to a redesigned security panel that scans your smartphone for potential issues.
Interested users can access the One UI 5 update by registering through the Samsung Members app. The list of devices and regions where the One UI 5 beta is available will be expanded soon.
