The American company Lucid Motors held a presentation of its new flagship electric sedan. The car, which was named Air Sapphire, boasts a spectacular “stuffing” and no less impressive price.
Air Sapphire is equipped with three electric motors with a total capacity of 1200 hp. The model also received a reinforced carbon-ceramic brake and improved cooling for the engines.
The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds and from 0 to 160 km/h (100 mph) in less than 4 seconds. Lucid claims that these characteristics make the Air Sapphire the most powerful sedan in the world, regardless of engine type.
The novelty, which will replace the Air Grand Touring Performance version (1050 hp, acceleration to hundreds in 2.6 seconds), not only surpassed its predecessor in terms of dynamic characteristics, but became a worthy competitor to the new Tesla Model S Plaid. For comparison: the total peak power of the S Plaid is 1020 horsepower, acceleration to 100 km in 2 seconds.
The cost of the model is fully consistent with its status – for Air Sapphire they ask from 249 thousand US dollars. The price is really impressive, considering the fact that the Model S Plaid in the US costs $135.5 thousand, and the Taycan Turbo S from Porsche is $187,400.
The model is currently only available for pre-order, with first shipments of the Lucid Air Sapphire Edition starting in the first quarter of 2023.
It was previously reported that Lucid will be recalling all 1,117 Lucid Air 2022 electric vehicles due to wiring issues.
