Over the past three months, prices for graphics cards in the main portfolio of 2020 have been declining rapidly and have already reached the manufacturer’s recommended retail price, but only when taking into account all cards. Unfortunately, price cuts to the recommended level do not apply to every video card model. Prices for some devices are still noticeably higher than the recommended level. This is especially true for NVIDIA video cards.
Actual prices for 2020 core portfolio graphics cards (which includes AMD Radeon RX 6800XT and RX 6800 models, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 models with 10 GB of memory) have dropped to an average of 97% of manufacturer’s suggested retail prices. However, their prices are still higher than those of both series of manufacturers. This is clearly demonstrated by the following graph.
The AMD Radeon RX 6800XT graphics cards are currently priced at €759 and the RX 6800 is €639. It is important to note that these prices are still technically higher than the MSRP, but only due to the current EUR/USD exchange rate.
In NVIDIA’s case, prices for 2020 core portfolio graphics cards are even higher. The GeForce RTX 3080 model with 10 GB of memory costs €675, while the GeForce RTX 3070 costs €579. The only version to hit the recommended price range is the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which sells for €474 in Europe. Again, these prices include current exchange rates.
It should be noted that the rate of decline in prices for graphics cards of the main portfolio in 2020 is lower than for most other devices, especially for flagship and budget models. The first ones will soon be replaced, and the lower models will lose their value as quickly as new architectures are announced.
