Appearance and equipment
Amazfit T-REX 2 comes with a magnetic charging cable and documentation. The manufacturer offers four colors – “Jet Black”, “Star Black”, “Wild Green”, “Desert Khaki”. The last two will especially appeal to avid travelers.
The body is made of polymer alloy, looks durable. Declared not only moisture protection according to the 10 ATM standard, but also compliance with the military reliability standard MIL-STD 810G – 2014, which includes tests for shock-moisture-heat resistance and operation at extreme temperatures.
The display is a 1.39″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 454×454 pixels. The screen shows excellent colors, is legible in the sun (1000 nits (peak)) and is read at an angle. Auto-brightness and AOD functions are supported. The glass is protected by a slightly protruding bezel.
On the sides are four control buttons and a decorative cap. The UP and DOWN buttons are responsible for vertical scrolling, SEL – selection / programmable function, BACK – back.
Despite the typical width of the strap, the fastening here is unusual. At the base of the watch, the strap is slightly thickened and directed at an angle. There are two retaining loops, but the edge of the tongue still sticks out a little.
Software
Amazfit T-REX 2 is powered by Zepp OS proprietary platform. Among the advantages, the manufacturer calls the economical consumption of resources, increased autonomy and openness to third-party applications. The final point sounds especially good, but in the local “App Store” a rolling ball.
As for the built-in functions and performance, everything is at a pleasant modern level. Both button and swipe controls are supported. Navigation is typical – quick access curtain, function cards, function menus. During the week of operation, we once had to deal with the freezing of the clock (they rebooted themselves and returned to normal).
Zepp App
Requires the installation of the Zepp companion app to work. It aggregates and interprets the received data, updates the firmware, sets the basic settings, downloads and configures watch faces, etc. Enough dials. Some even lend themselves to a little customization (you can change the displayed parameter), but we haven’t come across any interactive ones. You can choose either a separate AOD display or a variation of the current one.

Fitness features
To track the state of the body, a set of BioTracker 3.0 sensors is installed on the back side. With it, the watch does everything you expect from modern smartwatches and fitness bracelets: monitors steps, breathing, sleep, blood oxygen saturation, stress, recommends warming up every hour, helps you keep track of cycles, calculates PAI, etc. .
As many as 150 sports are supported in training mode, 8 of which can be selected for automatic tracking (walking, indoor walking, outdoor running, treadmill, cycling, pool swimming, elliptical machine, rowing machine). The watch will automatically start training if it suspects the user of a shameful activity. There is a desperately useful sensitivity setting to avoid false positives (especially true for walking).
It is possible to create a training plan, which can be useful for formalizing the training process, as well as track the pulse and notify the user when the specified limits are reached. With the latest update, the ability to track approaches during strength training has been added.
GPS features
Considering that Amazfit T-REX 2 are positioned as “traveling”, the geolocation function occupies a special position. Like some analogues, the watch has its own navigation module that allows you to track and record the path. To record, you must activate the option in the workout settings. But what is more difficult to meet with analogues is fine positioning settings (in the screenshots below), the function of building a return path, and the ability to import a route in GPX / TCX / KML format (formed using third-party services). Once imported, the route can be added to the workout.

Other functions
Amazfit T-REX 2 offer many features:
- Music control (on smartphone).
- Alarm. Including the option “Smart alarm clock” is supported, with which the alarm goes off not at the specified time, but at the moment of the desired sleep phase (but not earlier / later than 30 minutes). Supports creation and editing from the watch.
- Display notifications. In Zepp, you can create a white list of applications with access to notifications. Messages in instant messengers can not only be read, but also answered using emoji and pre-recorded phrases (eight phrases of 140 characters each). Not all emojis are displayed in messages.
- Timer and stopwatch.
- Weather display (requires internet connection on smartphone).
- Tracking the phases of the sun and moon.
- Smartphone search.
- Calendar and to-do list (formed in the application).
- Barometric altimeter.
- etc.
autonomy
For battery life, the watch relies on a 500 mAh battery. If you believe the official documentation, you should expect 10 days of work with intensive use, 24 days with normal and 45 days with energy saving. Our measurement showed a loss of 6% of the charge per day with active monitoring.
Where the charge will go faster when the geolocation functions are activated. From a full charge they promise 26 hours in precise mode, 50 in balanced, 58 in economical. With the help of a complete magnetic charger, the watch is charged in ~ a couple of hours.
conclusions
The Amazfit T-REX 2 is worth a look for those who are looking for a relatively affordable smartwatch for hiking and extreme sports. Among the advantages, it is worth noting the brutal design and reliability, the deep study of geolocation functions, decent autonomy, an excellent display, as well as an abundance of fitness and other functions.
In the nuances, we will write down the lack of contactless payment (although it’s basically difficult with this nowadays), the lack of support for voice calls, the unavailability of internal memory for downloading music and an empty app store. Much of the above can be found in other models (for example, Amazfit GTR 3 Pro – review ), but you should not expect the same survivability and T-REX 2 chips from them.
