Elon Musk sent another email offering to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share — the same price he originally offered in April before trying to back out of the deal, Bloomberg reported based on anonymous sources. The deal could go through as early as Friday.
Trading in Twitter stock was briefly halted, but the stock has since gained 18%. The company has not yet given official comments.
Musk and Twitter haven’t been able to agree on a deal for months. Offering to buy the company, Elon tried to cancel the deal, claiming that Twitter had lied about the number of bots on the platform. The company, in turn, sued Musk to force him to comply with the preliminary agreement – the date for the case was set for October 17.
According to an anonymous source, Musk’s legal team had a feeling that the case was not going well, as Judge Catalyn St. Jay McCormick “repeatedly sided with Twitter in pre-trial rulings.”
Correspondences that appeared in court documents were made public last week. The messages were distinguished by the fact that they did not contain discussions of concerns about bots. Instead, Musk appears to have clashed with Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, who asked Elon to stop posting negative tweets about the company.
In addition, at the previous pre-trial hearing, the companies hired to analyze the number of bots on the social network announced completely different information than Musk expected to hear. One company validated the Twitter data, another suggested that 11% of the Twitter users were fake… but that analysis was not statistically significant.
Musk is a well-known supporter of Signal, a private messaging app that can automatically delete user messages. It turned out that its use can result in a problem – for example, when correspondence is needed for a lawsuit. Twitter also demanded that the judge “punish” Musk for the lost messages.
Previously , Musk said in private messages that buying Twitter does not make sense given the possibility of World War III . And just yesterday, the entrepreneur “marked himself” with a post with a ridiculous survey about “peace between Ukraine and Russia” – he, among other things, offered to give Crimea to the occupiers .
