The new router and access point for mesh networks from Google is called Nest Wifi Pro. Behind the Pro index is support for Wi-Fi 6E tri-band wireless communication. Up to 100 devices can be connected to each Network Access Expansion Unit (max. 300 per system). The regular Google Nest Wifi was released in 2019 and only supported 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
An unpleasant surprise for owners of Google Nest Wifi mesh coverage will be the incompatibility of generations. Old networks cannot be expanded by adding Nest Wifi Pro to them. The reason for this is the new network architecture proposed by Pro. The previous generation was built around a router and access points connected to it. In the case of Wifi Pro, each device is both a router and an access point – although only one of them fulfills this role in the network.
Also, the novelty can play the role of a Thread router for connecting to smart home devices and will work as a Matter hub – as soon as Google launches this protocol (presumably this fall).
Google says the Nest Wifi Pro will automatically prioritize high-traffic tasks like streaming and video calls and optimize the bands used based on how congested the available range is. According to the company, the system will be able to throttle the performance of the network to minimize disruptions that could be caused by the ISP.
The Google Nest Wifi Pro is also very cute and looks like candy. A set of three devices costs $399.99.
The new doorbell with camera and video recording function Nest Doorbell is also cute. Google liked the design of the previous version so much that they decided not to change it – the novelty just became a little thinner and shorter by a couple of centimeters. The Doorbell can now be connected to the doorbell’s routed power wires.
A wired connection will allow him to shoot around the clock. On the other hand, without a battery, it will not be able to record video during a power outage, which its predecessor was capable of.
Video resolution is also not good – 960 x 1280 pixels and a lower magnification, unlike 1600 x 1200 for Nest Hello. But the novelty is equipped with many intelligent video recording modes and interaction with the smart home. The device costs $229.
Google “forgot” to mention that the Nest Secure security system is equipped with a microphone
