The Russian occupiers continue to terrorize Ukraine by shelling energy infrastructure facilities, leaving large cities and entire regions without energy supplies. At such moments, not only household consumers are left without electricity, but also cell towers, as well as equipment of Internet providers. As a result, the quality of communication may deteriorate and Internet access may be lost. It seems that the Ministry of Digital Transformation has figured out how to deal with this problem.
As Mikhail Fedorov said in an interview with Forbes, Ukraine is now receiving another batch of Starlink terminals in the amount of 1,570 units. Some of them will be aimed at creating public Wi-Fi access points. The goal of the project is to provide Ukrainians with Internet access during power outages. For this, in addition to Starlink terminals, it is also planned to use Tesla Powerwall energy storage facilities. Thanks to this, such public communication points will be able to work independently of the power grid.
Several test access points are currently being prepared for launch. Their work will be checked this week. Then they will be evaluated and scaled. It is planned to launch points during November. Mikhail Fedorov has not yet been able to say how many public access points are planned to be launched in Ukraine, and where they will be located.
