ASRock has created a PC assembly accessory that allows you to turn the side panel of your PC case into an LCD monitor. The gadget is a screen with a diagonal of 13.3”, designed to be mounted on the transparent side panel of the PC from the inside. The display can be used as a regular additional monitor, as well as to display the parameters of the computer.
The display has a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1080P resolution, IPS matrix and a 60Hz refresh rate. In fact, this is the equivalent of a small laptop screen. It uses a DisplayPort (eDP) connection connector.
Unfortunately, this presents a problem for most PC users. The connector was originally designed specifically for mobile and embedded solutions, which means that the connection is not available on standard motherboards or graphics cards.
As a result, only ASRock motherboards and a few models from other manufacturers support this sidebar. The list includes the following motherboards: Z790 LiveMixer, Z790 Pro RS/D4, Z790M-ITX WiFi, Z790 Steel Legend WiFi, Z790 PG Lightning, Z790 Pro RS, Z790 PG Lightning/D4. H610M-ITX/eDP and B650E PG-ITX WiFi.
Adapters are not a solution either, since eDP-DP adapters are not known to exist. In addition, creating an adapter is problematic, since eDP transmits both power and video signal over a single cable.
The accessory will definitely not become popular due to compatibility issues. But for users with a suitable motherboard, this product can be a convenient additional monitor that does not take up space on the table. Also, when using it, the backlight of the case may not be available.
