Street View will join the products in the ” Google Graveyard “. While decompiling the latest version of the 9to5 Android app, Google discovered app shutdown reports that the company has yet to release.
In messages, Google announces that the Street View app is being retired and support is ending on March 21, 2023. Madison Gouveia, a spokesperson for the company, confirmed to The Verge that the app will disappear from the Google Software Store in the coming weeks.
Google announced the creation of a separate Street View application in 2015. Available for both Android and iOS, it allowed you to upload your own 360° photos from your phone or spherical cameras. Last year, the company also introduced Photo Paths, which allows you to create a series of 2D photographs of roads and places not previously documented by Street View.
Street View will remain a key feature of Google Maps, so users will still be able to virtually explore all the places the tech giant has captured with its cameras. Also, spherical photos can continue to be added to Maps and publish 360 ° videos using Street View Studio .
However, adding Photo Paths images after closing Street View will not be possible. Previously submitted photos will remain available for viewing on Google Maps.
This change does not mean that Google decides to substantially phase out Maps. A few weeks ago, the company showed off some of the ways it plans to make the app more immersive – including what it calls “Immersive View” ( showing a 3D bird’s eye view of a specific location with details such as weather and traffic) .
Earlier, another once-popular product, the Google Hangouts messenger, went to the “cemetery”. In June, the company began transferring users of the mobile version of Hangouts to another messenger (Google Chat) , and on the first day of November, turned off the web version of the service .
